In the United States, April is designated as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This is a time when advocates, survivors, and allies work together to raise awareness about sexual violence and its impact on individuals, families, and communities. This year, we’d like to take a moment to discuss some of the myths and misconceptions about sexual assault. Too often, people believe that sexual assault is something that only happens to women or that it’s only perpetrated by strangers in dark alleys. The reality is that anyone can be assaulted – regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation – and that assaults can occur anywhere, including in homes and relationships. So please join us in raising awareness during Sexual Assault Awareness Month by sharing these facts with your friends and family members! 

Sexual assault awareness month is an annual event that takes place in April. The purpose of the month is to raise awareness about sexual assault and how to prevent it. This year, the national day coincides with the 1st of April, and there are a number of events and activities planned to mark the occasion. Sexual assault can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender or race. It’s a serious crime that can have long-lasting consequences for victims and their families. It’s important to be aware of the signs of sexual assault and know what steps to take if you or someone you know is affected.  

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

on 1st April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and today marks the first day of this important campaign. Sexual assault is a serious issue that affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds. This month provides an opportunity to learn more about sexual assault and how to prevent it. It also serves as a reminder that we all have a role to play in creating safer communities for everyone. So let’s get started! Here are some facts about sexual assault that you should know.

The 1970s saw a significant growth for prevention and awareness of sexual violence across the country, following in step with societal activism throughout that decade. Moving beyond simply acknowledging its existence though – The Bay Area Women Against Rapet caching center opened up shop to offer immediate victim services back when it was just an idea; Pennsylvania Coalition AGAINST rape formed soon after (in 1975) which would eventually become one key part making possible today’s society-wide efforts against these crimes.


Everyone knows that 1st April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and there are a number of ways that you can get involved in the movement to end sexual violence. Here are some things that you can do to show your support during Sexual Assault Awareness Month:
1. Wear teal. Teal is the color of sexual assault awareness, so wearing it during the month of April is a great way to show your solidarity with survivors. You can find teal clothing items at most major retailers, or you can make your own by tying a teal ribbon around your wrist or wearing a teal ribbon pin.
2. Donate to a local Rape Crisis Center. Sexual violence affects individuals in every community, so it’s important to support the organizations that.
