Do you know what today is? No, it’s not April Fool’s Day. Despite the name, Fossil Fools Day is actually a day to learn about and celebrate the fight against climate change.
That’s right, on this day every year we stand up and say “NO” to fossil fuels, and “YES” to renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
Why? Because burning fossil fuels like coal and oil releases harmful gases into the atmosphere, which contribute to climate change.
Fossil Fools Day
On 1st April every year, people around the world celebrate Fossil Fools Day – a day to call out those who deny the scientific evidence of climate change. The date is chosen to coincide with the annual ‘April Fool’s’ pranks that people play on one another, and it’s a way to get serious about an important issue. This year, Fossil Fools Day falls on a Saturday, so there are plenty of events happening around the country (and the world) to raise awareness and call for action on climate change.
Fossil Fools Day came into existence in 2004 when Canadian and American students decided to play strategic pranks centered around climate change.
